SNOWY SUMMER: BREAKING NEWS
CLIENT: AMBIENCE SEOUL, UNCORE ENTERTAINMENT
K-POP GROUP: CLOSE YOUR EYES
TYPE: MUSIC VIDEO CONCEPT TEASER
ROLE: MOTION DESIGNER
Working with Ambience Seoul, a creative production company in Seoul, I contributed to a visual teaser for the K-pop boy group, Close Your Eyes, under the management of Uncore Entertainment, in anticipation of their album release in 2025, Snowy Summer.
The project was a collaboration between the director, Joanne Shin, another motion designer, Tiffany Tedy, and me. My role in this project is the 3D VFX Design and Animation scenes, focusing on lighting, setting up the scene, materials, and the overall compositing animations.
CONCEPT
The concept for Close Your Eyes' album, Snowy Summer, centers on a sudden, mysterious snowfall that disrupts a hot summer. The album's storyline follows the group as they try to uncover the cause of this ghostly phenomenon.
For the visual teaser, we crafted a narrative that begins with a seemingly normal summer picnic on a dark night, subtly hinting at the horror elements from the official music video. The mood is shattered by a radio announcement of the incoming snowstorm. From there, the story is told through the perspective of news articles and public reaction, detailing everything from the initial rumors of ghosts to the eventual acceptance and enjoyment of the bizarre snowy summer by the city's citizens.
MOODBOARD

FINAL DESIGN & ANIMATION
A lot of technical setbacks happened due to the creative feedback being that the 3D scenes should feel very realistic and live footage-like, so finding a balance between the magical fantasy vibe and realistic lighting and materials was a challenge.
As the 3D designer and animator, I received 3D scans of real props the team used for the live shoot with the K-pop group for their other teasers, however, they weren't translatable to Cinema 4D. I had to recreate a lot of the props, such as the Apple with knives and the Oujia Board with the illustration we were given by the client.
Another challenge I had was figuring out how to seamlessly mimic a lighting change as if we were from dark, night, horror scene transitioning into a sunny bright day derived from tree leaves going away. It was definitely complex having to do it in a 3D scene without making it look too fake.
