NASCAR to Le Mans: Inside 'American Thunder'

CLIENT: AMAZON PRIME
STUDIO: BGSTR
TYPE: FEATURE DOCUMENTARY
ROLE: 2D/3D MOTION DESIGNER

Produced by BGSTR for Prime Video, American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans documents NASCAR’s 2023 Garage 56 project to bring an American stock car to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I created the 3D infographic animation sequence featured in the documentary, which visually presents the Garage 56 race car’s technical specifications—its dimensions, weight, fuel capacity, and core components.

The sequence combines data-driven design with cinematic motion, and I was responsible for animation, lighting, rendering, and compositing to align the visuals with the film’s premium and cohesive design system.

FINAL DESIGN & ANIMATION

Using Cinema4D, I brought in car model to show its features and functions. I played around with the camera animation to make it feel dynamic.

I also received a rough cut voiceover and soundtrack during the animation process, which allowed me to match the camera movement according to the audio. As this was the only section they needed a 3D/2D compositing infographic animation, I ensured it was visually close the whole documentary's visual aesthetics.
